Response regarding CFMEU social media post – 6 December 2018

Another false allegation

A new piece of inaccurate commentary on a CFMEU social media page claims SI-NRW workers are being forced to work in a location where Public Transport Authority (PTA) staff have been pulled out for safety reasons.

In fact, the restricted access was imposed by SI-NRW after a fault with a slurry booster pump was detected and flagged by our teams. PTA supported the restriction, which applied to visitors and PTA staff, as an interim measure to limit unnecessary foot traffic in the area.

There was no increased safety risk for workers continuing to work on the tunnel boring machines and the pump was replaced. As such the temporary access restriction has been lifted.

Senior union members inspected the area where the pump fault existed and did not raise any safety concerns.

We continue to be disappointed by the misleading and inaccurate attacks on our project and again deny the accusations levelled at our approach to safety.

We look forward to more constructive commentary from CFMEU and seek the support of all stakeholders to safely and successfully deliver this transformational piece of infrastructure.

Ends.
