As a joint venture, Salini Impregilo and NRW were awarded the design and construct contract for the Forrestfield-Airport Link project in April 2016. The $1.176billion contract also includes a 10-year maintenance period.
Salini Impregilo is an industrial group specialising in the construction of major, complex projects around the world. Over the past 110 years, the Group has operated in various sectors including dams and hydroelectric plants, hydraulic works, railways and metro systems, airports and motorways, civil and industrial buildings.
Its experience in Australia dates to the 1970s when the Salini Impregilo Group built Melbourne’s Metro. Throughout the 1980s, the companies that formed the current Salini Impregilo Group worked on various projects which included the Wivenhoe Dam, road bridges and water treatment plants.
In addition to the Forrestfield-Airport Link, the Group’s recent experience in the transport sector in Australia includes the surface and viaduct civil works (elevated skytrain and cable-stayed bridge) of the Sydney Metro Northwest.
